Learn about VW Engines : 3.0L V6 TDI

V6 TDI BlueMotion Clean Diesel

This 3.0 litre turbocharged engine was originally designed for Audi, first appearing in the 2004 A8, and later adapted for Volkswagen’s Phaeton and Touareg. The V6 TDI excels in three departments: power, fuel efficiency, and cleanliness. Power (406 lb-ft of torque!) is thanks to the fuel’s ultra-high injection pressure and the recycling of exhaust gases by the turbocharger. Efficiency is via the engine’s diesel fuel, which harbours more usable energy pound-for-pound than gasoline. In fact, diesel is one of the most energy-dense fuels out there. Finally, the engine’s cleanliness is thanks to the vehicle’s particulate filter, which cuts the “soot” emitted by diesel engines by 90%. The V6 TDI also comes paired with AdBlue, a harmless solution that is sprayed on the exhaust gas to significantly reduce the emission of nitrogen oxides. The result is a clean, quiet, exhilarating driving experience that requires significantly fewer stops at the gas station. The 3.0L V6 TDI can be found in the 2013/2014 Touareg TDI Clean Diesel.
